What you should know about remote jobs

In 2025, fully remote IT jobs make up approximately 12-28% of new job postings and around 27% of jobs for remote-capable workers, with hybrid models being more common (44-53%) and representing a significant preference for many employees and job seekers.

My clients all offer hybrid positions. Certain positions (not very often) may be considered remote.

Why employees prefer on-site versus remote

Employers have had negative experiences hiring remote IT employees.

Challenges with company culture, communication, loss of control, and potential decreases in productivity or increased layoff risk for remote workers compared to in-office colleagues.

Remote work programs have one notable downside:

  • They often impede organizations from creating and solidifying their company culture.

Company culture is fostered, in large part, by employees coming together and engaging in team-building
activities and division- or  company-wide meetings. Having disjointed teams can make this hard to
accomplish.

Remote workers are getting promoted 31% less frequently than people who work in the office
