Myth
If I
don’t go through a headhunter, a company will offer me more
money. Managers never take into consideration whether an agency fee is
involved. Managers base offers on your present salary and salaries of their
current employees with similar experience. Submitting your resume directly to a company
When you submit your resume to a company directly it goes
to a personnel rep. Personnel receives hundreds, if not thousands, of resumes
every time they run an ad. 99% of these resumes are of unqualified
applicants. Personnel does not have the time to read through a 100 resumes to
find the 1 or 2 applicants that might be qualified. Every week an applicant complains to me that they sent in a
resume through the Internet, a month or two ago. They received an automatic
reply and that was the last they heard from them. Then they want me to submit
them which I do, and even if the I.T. manager wants to interview them,
personnel searches their database and tells me they already have this
applicant. Even though personnel never sent the resume to the I.T. manager,
the I.T. manager isn’t allowed to interview the applicant. So the applicant
is never considered for the position. It’s always better to have an agent
representing you. |
